Mindfulness in Child and Adolescent Development: Spiritual, Psychological, and Educational perspectives

This book chapter reviews empirical and theoretical research focused on mindfulness and the psychological benefits of mindfulness practice with respect to mental health in children and adolescents. We list several psychological benefits associated with mindfulness, including decreased mental health issues, increased emotion regulation skills, and enhanced executive functioning. We present evidence that highlights the importance of placing mindfulness education and practice back within a spiritual and/or religious context for the positive moral development in youth.
