Nice to meet you.
Born and raised in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil, I was educated in the United States. My clinical approach offers a distinct blend of my Brazilian sensibilities with my North American work ethic. I provide clinical expertise in the treatment of depression and anxiety, grief, loss, role transition, adjustment, and interpersonal issues. Having lived as an immigrant for more than a decade myself, I also pay close attention to issues associated with transition, acculturation, belonging, differentiation, and integration, and how these manifest in our mental health.
I have had the privilege and honor of being trained by some of the most brilliant minds teaching at the University of Pennsylvania (2011-2015), at Harvard Medical School (2015-2016), and Columbia University (2018-2024).
My degrees include:
a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Psychology from UPenn, summa cum laude with honors, with the John R. Z. Abela Award for outstanding thesis (2015);
a Master's of Science (M.Sc.) in Clinical Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University (2021);
A Master's of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University (2023);
A Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University (2024).
Overall, my research focuses on mindfulness, self-compassion, spirituality, their relationship with mental health. I have published peer-reviewed studies on latent profiles of mindfulness in the United States (De Souza Marcovski & Miller, 2022), and a book chapter on mindfulness for youth (Reid, De Souza Marcovski, Cambpbell, Gold, Miller, 2024).
