Nice to meet you.
Born and raised in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil, I was educated in the United States. My clinical approach offers a distinct blend of my Brazilian sensibilities with my North American work ethic.
Having lived abroad for more than a decade myself, I deeply resonate with the emotional and psychological challenges of adjusting to a new culture. Navigating feelings of isolation, identity shifts, career transitions is not easy, but doesn't need to be handled on one's own.
I help expatriates and international people manage these demands while paying close attention to issues associated with transition, acculturation, belonging, and how these manifest in mental health. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, role transition, cultural adjustment, and career issues.
Throughout my education, I had the privilege of being trained by some of the most brilliant minds teaching at the University of Pennsylvania, at Harvard Medical School, and Columbia University.
My academic degrees include:
a Bachelor's in Psychology from Penn.
a Master's of Science in Clinical Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.
A Master's of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University.
A Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University.
Beside my interest in expat mental health, I have published research on mindfulness, self-compassion, spirituality, and their relationship with well-being and mental health. I have published peer-reviewed studies on latent profiles of mindfulness in the United States (De Souza Marcovski & Miller, 2022), and a book chapter on mindfulness for youth (Reid, De Souza Marcovski, Campbell, Gold, Miller, 2024).
